UK Launches World's First AI Biosecurity Lab Backed by £100M Public Fund and £200M Compute from OpenAI and Anthropic

The UK HM Treasury and Cabinet Office officially announced the creation of the AI Biosecurity Lab (AIBL), billed as the world's first dedicated national institution at the intersection of frontier AI and biological defense. The initiative forms the cornerstone of a £165 million National AI Biosecurity package, supported by £100 million in direct UK government funding and up to £200 million in compute credits and model access committed jointly by OpenAI and Anthropic. Google DeepMind and Basecamp Research join as key research partners. Operating as an independent non-profit modeled after the AI Security Institute, AIBL will deploy frontier reasoning models to detect emerging biological threats early and accelerate the computational design of life-saving medical countermeasures.

Terence Tao Launches Oai-Math-Revised Community Hub to Verify OpenAI Frontier Model Proofs

Fields Medalist Terence Tao announced the launch of oai-math-revised, an open community hub dedicated to systematically peer-reviewing and refining mathematical write-ups generated by OpenAI frontier reasoning models. Tao noted that while state-of-the-art models exhibit remarkable creativity in proposing plausible proof strategies for challenging open problems, their raw outputs often contain subtle logical leaps or unverified intermediate steps. The crowdsourced initiative invites professional mathematicians to audit machine-generated derivations, repair deductive gaps, and establish rigorous evaluation benchmarks for mathematical reasoning in artificial intelligence.
